Torii
Torii is part of the “She” series.
Creation of the work - The word “Torii” refers to a traditional Japanese gate, most commonly found at the entrance to or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred world. Because it is also about Eastern culture, which greatly attracts the artist, the work appropriates this symbol and gives it a new meaning to a certain extent. The majestic being in the center, emerging from a luminous portal, seems to bring good news. Perhaps she is transforming what is in the world, represented by the cities next door, into something sacred in which everything becomes perfect. The bird in strong blue also seems to play an important role in this magical moment. Who will he be?
Media used -
This emblematic painting went through several phases and techniques to be completed.
After sketching on paper and pastel, it was reworked on the computer and only then painted in watercolor. The work is created with watercolor paint on Hahnemühle paper. Its colors are delicate due to the motif of the work. Watercolor paint conveys to the viewer all the subtlety it proposes.
